Where will I be in 5 Years Time?

I find this site not so much as eye catching as the previous pages but I feel the artist is trying to be provocative in the way his wants the viewer to read the image displayed on his page.
His layout is simple and effective; the simplicity of this would branch out to a particular audience and client.
Jeff Canham uses imagery alongside text to illustrate a message for the viewers; he doesn’t want the viewer to be distracted by gadgets and frilly little icons but to be drawn in simply by his work alone.
The text he has used on his page is in the style of a type writer which I find appealing and is something that illustrators like to do in current styles and trends.
Pete Fowler

I find Pete Fowler’s webpage highly innovative. It’s bright and fun and appeals to a specific audience for example toy makers, cartoonist and comic book lovers. I find his work appeals from children to adults as his work has a simple childish quality but also looks to me like there are some drug implications of hallucination and intoxication from his recent video posted on his page.
His page is depicts the toys and cartoons he makes and his style is instantly recognisable.
His webpage is very busy and there is quite a lot going on in with the text alongside the imagery. I think the brightness and excitement of this page distracts the viewer in to reading the page. There is quite a lot of text on his homepage which I think needs to be somewhat diluted for his page to be more successful.
I have no real criticism apart from the text as find his page a piece of art itself, everything including the headings have been designed by Pete Fowler and the colours have been specifically chosen to match and compliment his toys.

During my career I have also worked in administration and then as an accounts assistant, which I feel has given me confidence and consideration when dealing with customers and clients.
I am currently an unemployed student and would relish the opportunity to work in your restaurant; I have a passion about food and enjoy the experience of eating out in your restaurant.
If you would like to contact me regarding my CV or for an interview please see details attached.

Yours Sincerely

Victoria Stroud

About Me

At the moment I am currently studying in Plymouth in my first year for a Degree in Illustration for the duration of 3 years.
I’ve had a lot of work experience and I find myself to be a hard working individual and reliable.
I would like to find work on a part time basis to help fund my studies.

John McFaul
John McFaul://blog.mcfaulstudio.com
I find this blog clear and informative; the creator had used bold contrasting colours which make some of the work stand out.
However photographs aren’t bold and striking enough because of the bright colours. I feel the colours take the focus away from the images depicted on his blog.
The format and text layout however works well within the images, he’s broke up large amounts of text with interesting images and videos, this prevents the viewer from being ‘put off’ by the amount of text and encourages them to read into the blog and enquire and promote possible work opportunity’s.
I find the colour scheme interesting and appeals to a certain age group and style.
The lime green contrasts and also compliments the black against the white and makes the page appear bold and striking.
I feel it represents sporting, males and it also has a graphic look to it.

When an artist displays photographs of things they’re interested in, in their everyday life I find it gives the viewer an understanding of how they come about their work and what kind of work it appeals to. I thought about sporting brands and graphic logos when looking at his page. The photograph of the man on his bike suggests that John McFaul is interested in cycling and may be trying to branch out for work in this industry.

Why have I chosen Illustration as a Course?

My Jouney into Illustration

I have enrolled in illustration as from an early age I was recognised for my drawing skills and natural flair. Other relatives have had similar creative flairs but had never pursued a career in this industry so I wanted to push my talents further and aim to work as an illustrator.
I find drawing and doodling a great way to express inner thoughts and a good way to enhance my drawing and creative skills.
To achieve a career as an illustrator would be the best way to lead a happy lifestyle, doing something I love for money and success. Illustration is such a diverse sector in the art world and the possibilities are endless. I would love to work with interior design, fashion design and even children’s books and editorial work.
For the last four years I have been working in an office environment doing something I hated. There was no freedom or challenges and I found myself doodling most of the time. I decided after endless job hunting that there were no jobs that I wanted to do.
I decided the only way to start was to enrol in another art course, to rehabilitate my creative and artistic skills. I had previously completed a BTEC National Diploma but it had been some years since then and needed get back into the art world.
I started my Access to Art and Design course which ran for one year to develop my skills. I found the course uplifting and it put me back on track to where I need to be.
I began applying for universities near my area in the South East,
and in time I found my course.
I moved four hours away from my home, this was very daunting but I am so much happier living the student lifestyle and doing something I love.
My future plan for when I eventually graduate would be to network and set up blogs and websites displaying and promoting my work. I am well aware that this is a very hard industry to become successful in but it doesn’t put me off, I know that if I can succeed in an illustrative career then my life would be near enough perfect for me.
I would love to achieve an editorial job, in which I’ll receive regular work with a specific magazine or article, this would support me financially but I’ll also like to work freelance.
I enjoy making, and my complementary course in ceramics is a new discovery for me. This art form has so much for an illustrator and designing pottery could be a stepping stone into interior design. To design and make ornaments, designing wallpapers and upholstery is something that I would like to push in my work, to start designing and making and eventually promote and sell these items on a webpage would be a good start in my adventure into the industry of illustration.
